Last week, Police Chief Paul Neudigate told the City Council he’s concerned about a recent surge in unruly crowds and a proliferation of firearms at the Oceanfront.
“As a result, these non-permitted events will not take place and VBPD will proactively enforce all applicable laws and ordinances regarding special events,” the statement says.
The Virginia Beach Police Department has been made aware of multiple events that lack appropriate permitting approval.
VBPD confirmed that officers shot the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Shaun Marlar, who was being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
