The remains of a woman killed while in captivity by Hamas was supposedly handed over to Israel on Friday, a day after her body was supposed to be brought back.

Just what happened to Shiri Bibas and her two children after they were kidnapped on October 7, 2023, has become a source of torment for their family and millions of Israelis.

DNA testing had found that remains returned a day earlier purportedly of Ms. Bibas, a dead Israeli hostage, were in fact not hers, stirring outrage in Israel.

Human remains returned to Israel by Hamas on Friday have been confirmed as those of former hostage Shiri Bibas, according to a statement from her family provided Saturday by the hostage relatives’ forum.

Israel on Friday accused Hamas of a breach of the cease-fire agreement between the warring sides of the "utmost severity" after DNA testing of four sets of hostage remains returned on Thursday showed one of the bodies was not that of Shiri Bibas as Hamas had claimed.

Israel says it has identified two of the dead bodies returned by Hamas on Thursday as Ariel and Kfir Bibas – but tests show another body that was expected to be that of their mother Shiri is not hers – and does not match any other Israeli hostage.
