Elon Musk’s company xAI apologized after Grok posted hate speech and extremist content, blaming a code update and pledging new safeguards to prevent future incidents.

The latest version of Grok for iOS (version 1.1.18) comes with two companions — an anime girl called Ani and a red panda called Rudi.

Musk wrote in an X post on Monday that AI companions are now available in the Grok app for "Super Grok" subscribers who pay $30 per month.

Grok, the chatbot built by Musk’s start-up xAI, is integrated into X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

This is not the first time the Grok AI chatbot has parroted insulting and offensive rhetoric after engineers tinkered with its settings.

Elon Musk said changes his xAI company made to Grok to be less politically correct had resulted in the chatbot being “too eager to please” and susceptible to being “manipulated.” That apparently led it to begin spewing out anti-Semitic and pro-Hitler comments on Musk’s X social platform Tuesday.
