Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement Tuesday that his Oval Office meeting last week with US President Donald Trump “did not go the way it was supposed to,” describing it as regrettable and noting that Ukraine is ready to negotiate.

The Ukrainian leader called for peace “as soon as possible” under “Trump’s strong leadership”, after the American abruptly and unilaterally froze military aid.

Trump also slammed Zelensky for suggesting that the end of Russia's war against Ukraine likely "is still very, very far away."
