FARGO — Former South Dakota State quarterback Mark Gronowski has committed to Iowa, he announced Tuesday, Jan. 7, via social media. Gronowski played four seasons for the Jackrabbits, leading the team to NCAA Division I FCS national championships during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Now, he's headed to the FBS and the Big Ten Conference.

South Dakota State star quarterback Mark Gronowski has announced he will play his final year at Iowa. Gronowski led the Jackrabbits to Football Championship Subdivision national titles in 2022 and 2023 and to the semifinals this season.

The Cougars landed three former SDSU players on Sunday – linebacker/cornerback Caleb Francl, defensive lineman Max Baloun and safety Matthew Durrance – which makes four former Jackrabbits who have publicly announced they’re becoming Cougs, joining running back Angel Johnson, who committed on Saturday.

Senior safety Cale Reeder and freshman defensive lineman Fernando Lecuona will become the eighth and nine Jackrabbits to follow new coach Jimmy Rogers to Pullman.

Former South Dakota State football QB and two-time national champion Mark Gronowski announced his commitment to Iowa on Tuesday.

Iowa football’s quarterback room became a lot more competitive on  Tuesday. South Dakota State quarterback Mark Gronowski will transfer to the Hawkeyes. Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports was first to report the news and Gronowski confirmed via a social media post.

Gronowski, the reigning FCS player of the year, entered the transfer portal last week and weighed playing one more college football season or entering the NFL. Four weeks ago, Gronowski accepted an invitation to compete in the East-West Shrine Bowl.
