A “No Kings” protest in St Paul, Minn. In Minnesota, where a gunman shot and killed a state lawmaker and her husband and gravely injured a state senator and his wife on Saturday, demonstrators came out to protest despite the events being officially canceled.

That’s part of why George Atkinson, a former high school government teacher, felt compelled to join a protest in downtown Houston on Saturday. The 89-year-old affixed a sign to his walker that read, “The clothes have no emperor! He’s all hat and no cattle!”

Over 90 "No Kings" protests were taking place Saturday, June 14, across New York state as millions across the country are expected to take part in a "nationwide day of defiance."
