Drake Powell's first round selection in Wednesday's NBA Draft marked a first in Hubert Davis' UNC basketball coaching career.

The Brooklyn Nets have selected Drake Powell with the No. 22 pick in the 2025 NBA draft. Powell entered this past collegiate season as a highly touted recruit and 2024 McDonald’s All-American, ultimately starting 24 of 37 games in his lone season at North Carolina.

Night one of the 2025 NBA Draft is officially in the books, and while the North Carolina Tar Heels didn't have a lottery pick this year, they did have a first-round pick. The Atlanta Hawks drafted freshman Drake Powell and then sent him to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a previously agreed-upon trade.
