Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II said in January that his team would prioritize bringing back one of its two starting quarterbacks from 2024 -- either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields . However, the team has pivoted significantly in the approximately six weeks since, per a report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
The Steelers are rising as a contender for Sam Darnold, with rumors of a new deal set to be offered for the free agent QB.
Fields, however, remains the focus for Pittsburgh, Russini adds. Jets interest in Fields has built since the Combine, per ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler. The Steelers hold more than $63MM in cap space; the Jets check in at just more than $51MM.
