Mobile's $4.4 billion acquisition of UScellular on Thursday, the latest deal blessed by the Trump administration as it takes a softer approach to corporate consolidation than its predecessor.

The Department of Justice dropped its antitrust investigation into T-Mobile US’ pending purchase of smaller telecommunications rival UScellular, but warned the deal could mark an anticompetitive turning point for the domestic wireless telecommunications industry.

The Justice Department on Thursday said its antitrust division won’t seek an injunction to prevent T-Mobile from closing on its proposed acquisition of U.S. Cellular. After the department evaluated the deal, it determined that “the potential harm and offsetting benefits of the transaction do not warrant an enforcement action.”
