Earlier this week, former Tennessee Vols tight end Jason Witten was mentioned as a potential option to replace Mike McCarthy as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas parted ways with McCarthy after the team finished 7-10 in 2024 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

After being selected by the Cowboys as a third-round pick out of Tennessee in 2003, Witten remained with the team until the end of the 2017 season. At that time, Witten retired briefly, joining ESPN's "Monday Night Football" crew.

Dallas needs a new football coach and owner Jerry Jones is at least kicking the tires on Deion Sanders. After parting ways with Mike McCarthy following five seasons without a playoff run, owner Jerry Jones spoke with Sanders about the coaching opening. Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports was first to report the news, calling Coach Prime a “top candidate.”
