Five people were killed Wednesday night after a collision between a train and a vehicle in Gary, Indiana. Just after 10 p.m., the South Shore Line eastbound train coming from Chicago 133 was stopped just west of Miller Station after the crash.

A vehicle drove past lowered crossing gates, and was hit by the train near Utah Avenue about 10 p.m. Wednesday, said a statement from the South Shore Line.

The Gary Police Department is investigating a Wednesday night crash where a vehicle went around the crossing gates and collided with a South Shore Line train, leaving five people dead.
