It didn't take long for the Dow Championship to become a favorite on the LPGA – among fans and players alike. That the team championship falls in between major championships makes it a welcome respite.

Sarah Schmelzel and Albane Valenzuela took the third-round lead Saturday in the Dow Championship, shooting a 2-under 68 in alternate-shot play to move into position for their first LPGA Tour victories

The LPGA contests its lone official team event of the year at Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan. There are 72 two-player teams in the field. The stroke-play tournament will consist of foursomes (alternate shot) in Rounds 1 and 3 and fourballs (better ball) in Rounds 2 and 4.
