The suspected perpetrator involved in the fatal incident at the Magdeburg Christmas market is expected to lose his medical licence, the regional administration for the state of Saxony-Anhalt announced on Friday.

A video of a police operation in Berlin has been misleadingly linked online to the Dec. 20 car-ramming attack at a Christmas market in the central German city of Magdeburg in posts suggesting that Muslims were targeted by authorities following the attack.

The suspect in the attack in Germany had history of threats and harassment though no record of violence and an ideology that didn’t fit familiar patterns.

A Saudi doctor plowed into dozens of holiday shoppers at a German Christmas market on Friday night, killing at least five people and injuring 200.

People have donated more than €615,000 ($641,000) for the victims and relatives of the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market, the city administration has said. More than 5,600 donations had been made to the cause so far,

The latest deadly assault on a beloved German tradition illustrates the challenge of holiday safety. For years, Germany has been strengthening security measures around Christmas markets in reaction to an attack in 2016 in which a man killed 12 people by driving a truck into a market in central Berlin.

All surviving victims of the Magdeburg Christmas market attack are in a stable condition after being taken to hospital mostly with broken bones and internal bleeding, a local hospital official has told a German newspaper.
